Cityscape Warehouse

The Cityscape Warehouse is about creating a luxury oasis amongst the ever-changing CBD.  This is a unique city home, designed to meet the changing needs of the modern inter-generational family. The stimulus for the project was some significant water damage across all floors due to a burst pipe, but ultimately the real driver was access - to all levels, for our Grandparent clients, their kids and their kids. Thanks to our client’s resources and their commitment to this building, we can now show you inside an inter-generational mansion hidden within the CBD



Foothills Haven

Malvern Rebirth

Our clients had lived in this house for a few years before deciding it needed to be renovated to suit the needs of their children through their teenage years.
 
It became evident that every square meter of the overall site needed to be put to full use to ensure the site was fully optimised for dedicated recreation and play spaces. As a consequence the renovation incorporated home theatre and cellaring in a basement level.
 
Main living areas step around the courtyard spaces giving differing aspects to the spaces within this zone.  Steel framed windows and exposed concrete floors generated a modern twist to the federation detail of the front of the house and specialist fittings create a dramatic presence in certain spaces.

Goldfields Ruin

Situated in the rolling plains of the Victorian Goldfields, this original house has been left in ruin from the bushfires of 1977 to perish. Our clients loved the mystic of living in a ruin and hence a major challenge of this project was how to maintain this spirit whilst transforming it into a new house to facilitate a modern lifestyle. The resulting design floats a new roof above the old walls, a slither of glass separates the two so the roof effectively hovers over the old walls, hence the uneven contour of the top of the wall can be experienced from both inside and out. The new rear extension is essentially two triangular roof plains skewed to each other as if blown across the plains like leafs and the modern minimalist interior reflects the simple beauty of the masonry walls of the ruin

Maslin Beach, SA

This permanent new home for a retiring couple fully explores the potential this amazing site has to offer with expansive views of the ocean from its cliff top position.
 
Almost every room has a view of the water as the house stretches along the site and snuggles into it.  Large viewing areas of double glazing ensure  the environment and its many changing moods and hues become an integral part of the spirit of the interior.
 
The plan form is conceived in three linked rectangles with large areas of glass to the southerly view and operable highlight windows to the northern sunshine.  An entry courtyard creates a protected sunny haven to the north for all year round outdoor living and an opportunity to establish a microclimate.
 
With a neutral palatte of natural materials this this environmentally friendly house features smart passive and active solar energy design with systems for hydronic heating, domestic hot water, electricity and cooling.

Surfcoast Retreat

The family had previously enjoyed many years at the site in a small fibro shack.  It is a dramatic site on a very steep slope with aspect through the trees to the southern ocean.  As the shack had no real relationship with the external environment, much of their time their and their fondest memories were of the time they sat in the evenings around the fire pit outside and got to enjoy the birdlife and beauty that surrounded them .  This provision of a fire pit and communal gathering area became a pivotal requirement of their brief - and it is expressed by the curving quadrant of glass cut into the main form.  Natural material and colours became an essential component of the fabric and carries the interiors out into the eucalyptus woodland outside.  Composed over two levels, the lower level has separate external access and can be isolated from the upper level internally, providing great flexibility in the use of the house by different family groups.

Lodge Retreat

This country renovation offers the owners a very different experience from their city lifestyle.
 
Located in central victoria, the renovation explores the use of stone, timbers and glass to create an interior offering a bunkering from the extremes of this environment - coolness in these hot summers and warmth in these icy winters.  The lines of the crazy paving to the floor are reflected in the radially sawn timbers of the vaulted ceiling.  Lower side ceilings encircle the main space  ensuring the scale is personal and secure.  Spotted gum panelling and green paint colour link the interiors to the wooded environment beyond.
 
A large central box seat is suspended out above the established garden to the rear providing a special pace to site and contemplate, read or chat.

Red Hill House

A green change, a love of landscape, an eye for design and an empty nest were all factors in our clients decision to establish a new house and grounds on mornington peninsula.  Having had an architect designed home over 20 years before to suit a young family, then now needed to create for the next stage - a home for themselves and a family base for their children and grandchildren to congregate to.
The site enjoyed distant views of Westernport Bay across gently sloping farmland which dictated the orientation of the plan which also sat neatly on the contours.  Externally a tall pitched roof combines with aircraft-type modelling at the wide eaves in a distinctive line.  Internally exposed aggregate concrete floors, large areas of glass combined with recycled timber straps and a neutral palette create a harmonious spirit from which to enjoy the newly established gardens of fruit and formality.
